What Is The Difference Between Surgical And Non-Surgical Weight Loss Plans?
<table class="iksweb"><tbody><tr><th colspan="2">Weight Loss Plan</th></tr><tr><th>Surgical</th><th>Non-Surgical</th></tr><tr><td>Bariatric surgery (gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, etc.) involves invasive procedures that make permanent changes to your digestive system. These changes limit the amount of food you can eat and, sometimes, the amount of nutrients the body can absorb.</td><td>Non-surgical weight loss plans do not involve incisions, removing, or rerouting any part of the digestive system but instead revolve around less-invasive techniques. Your non-surgical weight loss plan may involve prescription medication, an <a href="/blog/non-surgical-weight-loss-procedures/">endoscopic procedure</a> that will reduce the size of your stomach and keep you feeling full longer, or a combination of both.</td></tr></tbody></table>
Both surgical and non-surgical weight loss plans will typically have a team of experts to support you. A doctor will guide your progress, making adjustments if needed, and dietitians will help you create and follow a healthy eating plan. You may also work with a lifestyle coach and a behavioral therapist who can teach you effective strategies for losing weight and keeping it off. These professionals work together to ensure you have the tools and knowledge you need to reach and maintain your weight loss goals.
At Batash Endoscopic Weight Loss Center, our comprehensive non-surgical weight loss plans use a variety of strategies tailored to your specific needs and circumstances to help you lose weight and keep it off. These options don't involve invasive procedures or surgery but instead focus on lifestyle changes, diet modifications, increased physical activity, and endoscopic medical interventions.
What Interventions Are Part Of A Non-Surgical Weight Loss Plan?
At Batash Endoscopic Weight Loss Center, our non-surgical weight loss plans offer interventions to help you reach your weight loss goals without surgery. Options like the Orbera or Spatz3 gastric balloons and the Suture Sculpt ESG procedure use an endoscope to access the stomach without making abdominal incisions, so the risks are substantially lower, and recovery times are shorter.
Weight Loss Injections
Prescription weight loss injections have become very popular over the past two years because many individuals, including celebrities, have achieved significant weight loss while using them. They have shared their stories and weight loss results on social media, inspiring countless others to try these injections themselves. In fact, there has been such a significant increase in individuals who want to try these injections that they are getting increasingly harder to get.
These shots, which are often used as part of a non-surgical weight loss plan, were initially created and used to treat type 2 diabetes but have been FDA-approved for obesity management. There are currently three medications that have been approved to treat obesity: liraglutide (Saxenda), semaglutide (Wegovy), and tirzepatide (Zepbound).
Saxenda is administered daily, while Wegovy and Zepbound are only done weekly. It works best when you administer your injections around the same time each day and each week. These injections help individuals lose weight by mimicking key hormones that work with our digestive system to keep it running effectively and suppress the appetite. Patients begin taking a low dose of the medication and follow the schedule provided by their doctor to increase the dose over the course of several months.
Gastric Balloons
The Orbera and Spatz3 intragastric balloons are medical interventions that are only temporary. They are placed in the patient's stomach in a deflated state and are filled with saline to take up about ¾ of its capacity. The procedure is done using an endoscope to lower the balloon down the patient’s esophagus and into the stomach without surgery.
Once the balloon is in place and filled, it prevents the individual from eating too much during meals and helps them feel full between meals. Patients participate in a supervised program where they have a vast support system of professionals.
The goal is for patients to learn portion control, the importance of nutrition, and getting daily exercise and put this knowledge into practice, making lifestyle changes that will promote improvements in their health. The temporary balloon is removed after six months for Orbera and eight months for Spatz3, but the patient continues working with their support team for a full year. Here at Batash Endoscopic Weight Loss Centers, we have seen numerous patients lose a significant amount of weight using a gastric balloon.
Suture Sculpt ESG
Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive procedure that is completed from inside the patient's stomach to change its shape and reduce its capacity. This is done by using an endoscope to access the stomach and strategically placing stitches inside the stomach. The smaller stomach forces portion control and creates a sensation of fullness, which helps patients eat less and feel satisfied longer.
There are no incisions, no hospital stay, and no activity restrictions after having Suture Sculpt ESG, and most patients are back to their normal routine in about three days. Many of our patients have lost substantial amounts of weight after having the ESG procedure.

Your Commitment Is The Key To Maintaining A Healthy Weight
No matter which non-surgical weight loss plan or intervention you choose, your dedication is what will ensure your long-term success. These interventions can help you reach your weight loss goals, but maintaining these results requires a commitment to permanent lifestyle changes. Many people lose weight but gain it back because they slip into their previous habits. Maintaining a healthy weight requires ongoing changes in your diet and daily activities.
Two of the most important things that will require ongoing focus are consuming a healthy diet and getting enough exercise. Avoiding unhealthy food choices and opting for fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains will promote weight loss and better health. Making a habit of getting physical exercise every day can help you achieve the calorie deficit that is required to lose weight. If going to the gym is not your thing, there are plenty of other options. Just find something you enjoy doing that gets you moving, like dancing, gardening, tennis, basketball, etc. Walking is a great place to start because it's fairly easy to get started. Just begin by taking a few short 10-minute walks a few times a day, and then work your way up to longer and more challenging walks.
